Boat & bike hire Norfolk Broads
The Norfolk Broads is best admired from the sun deck of a luxury holiday cruiser, glass in hand. We recommend the Captain, which has both forward and rear sundecks.
But for those days where you wish to kick your holiday up a gear, add a couple of hire bikes to your holiday package. Fold-up bikes are easy to stow on board without the need for external storage racks.
With a bit of extra pedal power, you can explore more of the Norfolk Broads National Park. Here are our top 5 places to visit by boat and bike in the southern broads.
Norwich
Norwich is a bustling city with a friendly Norfolk vibe. It’s cycle-friendly, has many historical streets, ancient buildings, pubs, and theatres. Take in a show at the Theatre Royal, visit the Castle Museum, or enjoy fine dining at Benedicts (a Times Top 100 restaurant).
Whitlingham Country Park
Southeast of Norwich is Whitlingham Country park*. Cyclists are welcome to explore the Great Broad and visit the café but are encouraged to stick to the paths.
Redwell Brewing
Around the corner from Whitlingham is Redwell Brewing Tap Room and Pizzeria. Visit their website for up-to-date information about tours and events.
Humpty Dumpty Brewery, Reedham
Roughly an 8-minute ride from Reedham is the Humpty Dumpty micro-brewery. Their shop is open daily from Easter until November 12-5 pm. The shop sells local produce in addition to its own beer. You can also pre-arrange a brewery tour with beer tasting and fish and chip supper.
Beccles & The Locks Inn
Moor up at Beccles Quay for ice cream, then pedal the 3.6 miles over Gillingham Dam to the small village of Geldeston. The 300-year-old Locks Inn is community-run and well-known locally for its live music. The lane approaching the pub crosses typical Norfolk marshes abundant with wildlife, grazing cows, and horses. You can also get to the pub via the Big Dog Ferry from Beccles Lido.
Alternatively, hop off at any one of the picturesque Norfolk villages along the way for an explore. These include Surlingham, Aldeby, Burgh St Peter, Loddon, Chedgrave, and Langley. Bike hire can be added to your holiday package at the time of booking.
Please check local attraction websites for up-to-date information about covid restrictions, opening times, and events.
